Title: Institutional Capacity Building and Environmental Profiling for Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) in the Institute of Oceanography, Nha Trang, Vietnam
Long-term objective of this phase:
Providing a sound basis for sustainable development and management of resources as well as protection of environment in Vietnam’s coastal and marine areas adopting the integrated coastal management (ICM) approach.
Immediate objectives of this phase:
1. To strengthen institutional capacity through training a core group of staff skilled in aspects of ICM; and to build up the capacity of existing staff in the efficient use of the equipment and facilities in the Institute;
2. To prepare, in collaboration with concerned institutions: a coastal environmental profile of Binh Dinh & Khanh Hoa coastal areas.
3. Initial risk assessments to classify and prioritize the coastal management issues; and a strategic environmental management plan as a blue-print for managing Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) coastal areas.
4. To establish an integrated environmental/pollution monitoring program for Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) coastal areas.
