Openning of the first South East Asia workshop in aquatic microbial ecology - Asiame 2013(7-16 October 2013) at Institute of Oceanography, Nha trang , Viet Nam

Monday, 7th October 2013, the first Southeast Asia Workshop in Aquatic Microbial Ecology (ASIAME 2013) is officially opened at the Institute of Oceanography, Nha Trang, Viet Nam. Assoc. Prof. Vo Si Tuan, director of the Institute of Oceanography and Dr. Jean-Pascal Toterront, representative of IRD Viet Nam have been giving the openning speeches.

ASIAME is putting emphasis in current research on ecology of aquatic microbes. Aquatic microbial ecology is a key discipline that has undergonetremendous evolution in the last two decades. Mastering concepts andmethods, especially those based on molecular biology approaches, iscritical for successful management of coastal and marine areas, particularly in fields such as red tide control, biogeochemical cycles, aquaculture, and marine biotechnology. Understanding microbial diversity, their roles, interactions and capacities for adaptation are keys toanticipating the effects of use of aquatic systems.

ASIAME aims to bring together scientists, post-graduates, and graduatestudents in order to exchange the most advanced knowledge and methodsin aquatic microbiology through scientific lectures and practical training.

ASIAME 2013 is sponsored by: Institute of Oceanography (VAST), IRD, CNRS, and MOORE Foundation.
